Aug 30, 2024Read Time: 2 minutes
Hey,
Is This All There Is?
Ever found yourself thinking, "Once I have this," or "Once I achieve that, everything will be better"? It's a common belief that reaching the next milestone—landing that big client, securing a promotion, or hitting a new business valuation—will finally bring the satisfaction we've been chasing. But what often follows success is more opportunities, which can lead to increased stress, anxiety, and worry.
The Common Approach
Most people believe that the next big thing will solve all their problems. They chase one goal after another, thinking that the next achievement will bring contentment.
Why It Doesn't Work
The reality is that each new achievement often leads to the next pursuit. It's a never-ending cycle where the satisfaction we're seeking always seems just out of reach.
My Approach
As high performers, we're wired to chase the next big thing. There's nothing wrong with that drive, but it's crucial to understand why we're pursuing these goals. Make sure your motivation is healthy and not based on external pressures or a desire to prove something to others.
Recommended Next Steps
The world often feeds us the lie that more success equals more happiness. Instead, maintain a healthy perspective and ensure your drive for more doesn’t overshadow your relationships and well-being. Ask yourself, "How am I really doing?"
How would those around you rate your performance as a partner, parent, sibling, or friend? Strive to be as great a friend and family member as you are in your professional life, and you'll find a more balanced, fulfilling life.
Stay Focused,
Casey
