Friday Focus #050 - Back to Basics
Mar 28, 2025
Hey,
A few weeks ago, I shared the shifts I made to align my life with what truly mattered. The biggest change?
- No more investing in operating companies.
- No more high-priced consulting engagements.
- No more high-risk, speculative investments.
If I wanted a peaceful life, I had to be intentional about it. That meant stepping away from running companies and carrying responsibilities that no longer served me. I simplified everything, went back to the basics, and asked myself:
What would 10-year-old Casey want to do?
Aside from playing pro baseball, the answer was clear—real estate.
I still have my 8th-grade time capsule, where I predicted the Cubs would win the 2003 World Series (I was 13 years off). But more importantly, I wrote that I would buy and develop land—and that vision never left me.
So, 10 months ago, I started exploring. I interviewed experts, studied business models, and asked myself:
🔹 Would I enjoy this?
🔹 Could I be great at it?
🔹 Is there money to be made?
Money isn’t everything, but as a former athlete, I know the score matters. And whatever I do, I play to win—now with healthier motivations and a purpose beyond myself.
Six months ago, after shedding old commitments, I jumped in. The model I created is simple, scalable, and sustainable. I’ve learned what I do best and what I don’t and built a small, efficient team with low overhead to execute the vision.
So far, we’ve closed three real estate deals, all centered around land. The strategy?
✔ Buy land at the right price
✔ Improve it—subdivide, add features like lakes, buildings, or homes
✔ Sell it to the right buyer for more
Simple? Yes.
Easy? No. If it were, everyone would do it.
Now, let me ask you: What’s your business model?
Is it simple? Sustainable? Does it let you operate in your strengths and do what you love?
Stay Focused,
Casey
